Ben L’Oncle Video with Lambretta

Album in vinyl

The album comes in vinyl, too.

I’ve been listening to this new album by Ben L’oncle Soul which hooked me with his soulful version of Seven Nation Army which is quite toe-tapping in another way than the original by the White Stripes. Scoot! contributor Pistol Pete Cervantes tipped me off that the stop animation video for the song has a Lambretta. Kewl!

The album as a whole is a modern take on 60′s soul style that should appeal to those who like Adele, Raphael Saadiq and Duffy. There’s a bit of humor in the presentation and I love that he delivers some of the songs in French, which adds a different dimension to his crooning. His merchandising group sells a shirt which has his grinning face and the slogan, “Plutôt Old School le mec” which my sub-standard high school French translates to, “Rather the old school Cat.” Or maybe “Player” is more of the moment than Cat? Love it!
